This life is not an easy one.
Tim Drake was the son of Jack and Janet Drake. Jack was a talented scientist, and when Tim was very young, his parents left him with his aunt and uncle, and never came back. No one has ever been able to give him a satisfactory answer as to what happened to them, and he's always been deeply troubled by the question of what really happened to his parents.
He was raised by his aunt and uncle, Dana and Eddie Drake. He had a fairly normal childhood, and his aunt and uncle basically treated him as their own son. Tim was incredibly, incredibly smart, and a little awkward, which meant he was a bit of a social outcast in school and always felt a little out of place. In high school, he was a (for the most part) friendless nerd, who got picked on by bullies and didn't have much to defend himself with. He got a job with the school paper, putting his penchant for photography to use, and while getting some pictures for an article about student internships at an OSCORP facility (which he'd been interested in investigating because of his crush on Stephanie Brown, who had gotten one of the internships), he was bitten by a radioactive spider.
Tim developed superpowers, and while initially pretty freaked out and not sure what to do with them, he quickly found out that his advanced instincts and abilities could actually be incredibly, incredibly useful. He could stick up for himself and suddenly wasn't just a scrawny little nerd anymore, and he quickly started testing his limits and figuring out ways to make this work for him.
This, of course, meant lying to his aunt and uncle, because how would one really explain this kind of thing, anyway? Although Dana and Eddie were getting suspicious of how much time he was spending out of the house, they tried to be supportive, and when Tim came up with a lie to cover up that he was going to a wrestling tournament to win money to buy a new car to impress Steph, Eddie emphasized that he wanted to talk to Tim about something when he got back. Tim brushed him off, and after he was cheated out of his prize money, he didn't stop a criminal from robbing the head of the tournament, saying it wasn't his problem.
During his getaway, the thief encountered Eddie Drake and shot him. Tim arrived on scene in time for Eddie to leave him with some words of wisdom - with great power comes great responsibility - before dying in his arms. Taking the words to heart, Tim stopped the robber and didn't interfere when he fell to his death
Resolving to use his powers to help prevent crimes like that from happening to others, Tim took up the identity Spider-Man, and began patrolling New York as a superhero.
When Tim was getting established in New York as Spider-Man, he crossed paths with Captain America on patrol. Tim had been a huge fan of Captain America and Patriot when he was younger, and he realized while working with him (and from news reports that Captain America was back and active) that it wasn't the original Captain America in the suit, or a new person taking up the role, but Patriot had somehow survived the plane crash and was somehow still alive and active. The two quickly bonded, and eventually Cap introduced him to the rest of the Avengers. Spidey started to become a common fixture in Kirk Tower, and occasionally ran missions with them, eventually developing a surrogate sibling/mentor relationship with Cap, and the two began hanging out as Dick Grayson and Tim Drake.
Roughly two years later, Dana was targeted by the Green Goblin after he discovered Tim's identity and murdered in her home before Dick and Tim could get on the scene. Tim was the first to discover her body, and was taken in by Dick after it happened. After having a crisis about why he was doing what he was doing and if it was worth it, Tim still splits his time being a hero and trying to have something resembling a normal life, while protecting the people he has left from what he really is. He lives at Dick's apartment in Brooklyn during the week and attends high school, and has a room in Kirk Tower downtown when he's working with the Avengers.
